About

Painting is a bit like a sixth-sense relationship that began when I was a kid, around the same time that my love of exploring the outdoors and nature was taking root.

As a teenager, I studied traditional oil painting with a Belgian painting master until I was an adult, then went to fine art school, where I cemented my love for painting and art. Four years of experimentation and being with a class of art students was heaven.

Over the years I’ve grown to combine facets of my traditional oil painting skills with experimental techniques, compositional abstraction, and non-traditional color. That’s a long way of saying my work is focused on the experience of light, whether found in nature, or as a revelation in our personal lives.

Much of my work is based on those experiences in a wilderness, park, or local setting, places where I find my calm and centeredness. I find this connection to the land, and something bigger than myself – and everyone, reassuring and grounding.

In 2022, I returned to being a full-time artist and painter, after a long, successful career in design, art direction, and publishing.

I live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area, and spend a good deal of time hiking and exploring remote places of California and the West. These places are where my art process begins, where I fall in love again and again with what I see and experience.

I love having visitors to my studio! If you’re in the Bay Area, and would like to arrange a studio visit to see more of my work, or a particular piece, you can contact me via the button link below.
