Pence Gallery Emerging Artist Award, 2025
Davis, California

Press Release: The Pence Gallery is excited to announce landscape artist Charlene Will as the recipient of the 2025 Emerging Artist Award. Her paintings reflect her abiding interest in exploring the depths of California’s remote wilderness areas. Combining traditional brushwork with a spontaneous use of palette knife, Will captures the ephemeral qualities of light and color found in various natural ecosystems. Her paintings feature a multitudinous view of California, from the high desert of Mono Lake to the Sierras, to nearby East Bay hills.

The Award includes the opportunity to create new work to showcase in a solo exhibit at the Pence in January to February 2026, and a monetary stipend to support her practice. The Pence Gallery Emerging Artist Award is generously sponsored by Rosa Marquez and Yatish Mishra.
